PASTOR WILLIAM SCHALK
Pastor Schalk was saved on July
22nd 1983 following a graduation night
death of a classmate. God
used that event in his life to cause him
to consider the fact of Eternity and
where one goes when they die.
Realizing himself a hell deserving
sinner he repented of his sins and
accepted Christ as his saviour.
In 1984 he followed the leading of the
Lord and attended Fairhaven Baptist
College under the direction of Dr. Roger
Voegtlin.
At Fairhaven, Pastor Schalk studied
Pastoral Ministries as well as
participated in a variety of ministries
including: Visitation Soul-Winning in
East Chicago, Illinois.
Then Pastor Schalk moved to the Bus
Ministry where he spent every Saturday
visiting the bus children and youth
riders. Pastor
Schalk also involved himself in the
4th-6th grade junior church ministry.
One summer, during his college days at
Fairhaven, Pastor Schalk was
recruited to be a Summer Evangelist for
Neighborhood Bible Time in Boulder
Colorado, trained under the ministry of
Brother Charles Homshire, Pastor Schalk
conducted week-long NBT meetings in 12
churches from Colorado, Texas, Oregon,
Washington, Montana, and Indiana.
Pastor Schalk left Fairhaven in 1989 and
was married later that year to Leah
Greeno whom he had met at Fairhaven.
After marriage Pastor Schalk and
his wife began working in a small church
in the cornfields of Northern Indiana
preaching the worship service on
occassion and serving as a Youth
Director. Pastor
Schalk and his wife took a group of 5
children and built the ministry to
nearly 30 and a high of 36.
Pastor Schalk served in that church (New
Life Independant Baptist Church) from
1989 to 1990 Pastor Schalk felt the need
to further his ministry education and
left Indiana to attend Ambassador
Baptist College in 1991 under the
training of Dr. Ron Comfort.
Pastor Schalk trained there seeking a
Bible Major and second man evangelist
minor while at the same time seeking the
Lords directing for future ministry.
While preaching a chapel service for
Heritage Christian School in Gaffney, SC
Pastor Schalk was asked to consider
teaching in the Christian School and
serving in the associating church at the
time Oak Grove Baptist Church now
Lighthouse Baptist Church in Blacksburg,
SC where Grady Gregory is Pastor.
In the fall of 1993 Pastor Schalk left
Ambassador to serve as Bible, Health and
Phys Ed teacher as well as Youth
Director at the church.
While teaching at the Christian School
Pastor Schalk would assist with Chapel
services and counselling students making
decisions.
Pastor Schalk remained in that position
until 1985 and at that time again was
searching the Lords leading for future
ministry. Pastor
Schalk served at Lighthouse Baptist
Church as Pre-Teen Director while his
wife Leah continued teaching art at the
Christian School.
In 2002 Pastor Schalk spent four
months as Interim Pastor at Truth
Baptist Church in Jonesville, SC and in
2003 God led the Schalk family to New
Hope Baptist Church in Gaffney, SC where
Brother Schalk felt the purpose of God
to lift up the Pastor's hand and serve
both where needed and as needed.
Pastor Tim Osment asked then Brother
Schalk to preach on their radio
ministry. Also
while at New Hope Brother Schalk taught
the adult sunday school and assisted in
the nursing home ministry and a "Take
Church to Them" ministry where after the
evening service members of the church
would gather and go to folks homes to
bring church to their house.
In the summer of 2005 Brother Schalk
felt the tug of God to begin making
himself available to pastorless churches
and in October Brother Schalk was
contacted by Mr. Richard Bartrop of the
Lynn Hill Baptist Church to come and
candidate for the pastorate.
Brother Schalk came and preached for
them on November 5, 2005 and three weeks
later was called by a 10-1 vote to
become their pastor.
Pastor Schalk is nearing his 2nd
year of ministry at Lynn Hill and the
church while remaining in its infancy
has the pioneering spirit with a vision
for growth and usefulness to serve out
Gods purposes in the community and
world-wide through its Faith-Promise
Missions which began in February of
2007.
